About Us

The IEEE

Originally founded in 1963, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) is a non-profit organization leading the advancement of technology among professional communities around the world. The IEEE currently has over 375,000 members providing services in more than 160 countries, as well as more than 483 student branch chapters situated in colleges and universities.

IEEE strives to be recognized as playing an essential role in improving global conditions by contributing to the work of the technical community and technical professionals everywhere.

The IEEE uOttawa Student Branch

The student branch at uOttawa was established to provide services to improve each students' experience on campus by accommodating students with access to up-to-date equipment, internet access, textbooks and a quiet work environment. Our branch ID is 2501471. Our branch constitution

Awards

Our branch has received numerous awards from different levels of the IEEE.

IEEE Ottawa Section Awards

  • 2009 – Student Branch Membership Growth Award Awarded to the IEEE University of Ottawa Student Branch for its outstanding performance.
  • 2010 – Outstanding Student Branch Award Awarded to the IEEE University of Ottawa Student Branch for organizing the most number of member events and providing networking opportunities to its member.

IEEE Regional (Canada) MGA Awards

  • 2000 – Student Branch Membership Growth Award Recognizing the section in each region having achieved the highest rate of growth.
  • 2001 – George Armitage Outstanding Student Branch Award To recognize one Student Branch in the world for its efforts in promoting the benefits of IEEE membership to students, meeting IEEE Bylaw reporting and membership requirements.
  • 2004 – Student Branch Membership Growth Award Recognizing the section in each region having achieved the highest rate of growth.
  • 2009 – IEEE McNaughton Learning Resource Centre Grants Awarded to continually update and improve student services through IEEE student branches.
  • 2010 – IEEE MGA Website Competition – Runner-Up Award Recognized for their outstanding website work in Canada. First and second place winners move onto the global competition.
  • 2014 – George Armitage Outstanding Student Branch Award To recognize one Student Branch in the world for its efforts in promoting the benefits of IEEE membership to students, meeting IEEE Bylaw reporting and membership requirements.

    IEEE (Global) Awards

  • 2010 – IEEE MGA Website Competition – Runner-Up Award Over 130 Student Branches participate in their respective IEEE regional contests. Winners of the regional contest move onto the global competition held by the IEEE Organization. The University of Ottawa is recognized for their excellent website design.
